At Brentwood Family Dentistry, we use the Waterlase MD Turbo Dental Laser for many of our procedures. The Waterlase MD is a product that utilizes a water-energized laser beam to cut oral tissue such as teeth and gums, and even bone. While dental drills have long been the method of choice for many dental procedures, a dental laser like Waterlase can achieve the same procedures with much less trauma to the mouth than traditional dental drills. The Waterlase MD uses a combination of laser energy and water that works without touching your teeth, so that there is no vibration or pressure. Many more procedures on teeth, gums and bone can be performed with less need for anesthesia, and less use of the drill, providing for a more relaxing and less stressful dental experience.
ADVANTAGES OF WATERLASE MD TURBO DENTAL LASER
Convenience. Your visits at our office will be faster, since there may be less or no anesthesia, and no injections. This means we can perform procedures that once meant an additional appointment, or had to be referred to a specialist, which saves you time.
Faster Healing. The Waterlase MD can perform many procedures on gum tissue with little or no bleeding and less swelling and pain.
Less Anesthesia. The laser beam combined with water/air spray allows the system to cut, etch and shape target tissue with pinpoint precision while avoiding any direct contact. Although the treatment may not be completely painless, anesthesia is no longer necessary.
USES OF WATERLASE MD DENTAL LASER
Fillings. Waterlase is used to remove tooth decay and fill the teeth usually without the need for needles, so our patients are able to eat, talk and chew right after fillings are performed. The use of the Waterlase for cavity preparations can also increase bond strength of tooth colored restorations, resulting in longer lasting fillings.
Removal of Oral Growths. Waterlase can be used to remove growths or excess tissue in a patient’s mouth, including excess gum tissue over an unerupted tooth or fibromas.
Prevent Gum Recession. Muscle connections that can cause gums to recede can be taken care of with the Waterlase with little discomfort.
Treat Periodontal Disease. Waterlase can be used to remove debris and bacteria between the patient’s teeth and gums that can cause bleeding, gum recession and even loss of teeth. Waterlase has been shown to reduce bacteria and may even stimulate gum tissue growth.
Relieves Cold Sore Discomfort. Waterlase may provide immediate relief from painful cold sores and fever blisters.
Increased Root Canal Success. Waterlase may help disinfect root canals to remove more bacteria, resulting in a higher rate of long term success.
