WHAT ARE VENEERS?

Dental veneers are made of a very thin, durable porcelain material and are applied onto the surface of your teeth.  They create a natural look and give long lasting results. Veneers can be used to fix chipped, broken, misshaped or abnormally spaced teeth.  They look just like your enamel and are permanent.

Coffee, smoking or eating highly pigmented foods eventually take their toll on your teeth, turning them an unattractive shade of yellow or brown.  Stained enamel can be bleached, but it can become stained again after a short time. If you’re looking for an easier way to have white teeth permanently, veneers may be an option for you.  Veneers are largely stain-resistant so you won’t have to worry about discoloration or needing to have your veneers whitened over and over again.

Slightly crooked or gapped teeth can be treated with braces or other orthodontic treatments, but sometimes these problems can be helped with shorter remedies.  Veneers are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth, so although they don’t shift positions, they do camouflage minor orthodontic issues once they’re applied. Your natural teeth may still be gapped or crooked, but now they look great and no one will know you are wearing veneers.

Your enamel may be worn down from eating highly acidic foods and drinks.  The stomach acid associated with acid reflux disease can also damage your enamel.  This can become concerning, because lost enamel doesn’t grow back. Fortunately, we can replace it with veneers.  

THE PROCESS  

At Brentwood Family Dentistry, we use porcelain veneers to give you your beautiful, white smile back.  First, we remove a small amount of the tooth’s surface to permit placement of the veneer. Then we take an impression of the tooth or teeth to be covered.  The dental veneer is made right in our office to fit the tooth and mouth. Lastly, we bond it to the tooth with resin cement.
