- Try to reinsert it into the socket. If that’s not possible, keep the tooth moist by placing it in a glass of milk or in your mouth next to your cheek.

Lost Filling or Crown
If a filling or crown comes out, it’s important to bring it to your appointment.
- Keep the crown safe so it can potentially be reattached. Try to slip the crown back over the tooth using over-the-counter dental cement, toothpaste, or denture adhesive, to help hold it in place temporarily.
- If it’s a filling, use over-the-counter dental cement to protect the area, but avoid using any temporary material until speaking with your dentist if pain is severe.
Abscess
An abscess is a serious infection that can damage tissue and surrounding teeth, with the infection possibly spreading to other parts of the body if left untreated.
- Look for a pimple-like swelling on your gums that may discharge pus.
- Rinse your mouth with a mild saltwater solution several times a day to draw the pus to the surface and alleviate the pain.
